Check out the #1 New York Times bestseller Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty, called “a surefire hit” by Entertainment Weekly.

"The secrets burrowed in this seemingly placid small town...are so suburban noir they would make David Lynch clap with glee...[Moriarty] is a fantastically nimble writer, so sure-footed that the book leaps between dark and light seamlessly; even the big reveal in the final pages feels earned and genuinely shocking.” —Entertainment Weekly

"Reading one [of Liane Moriarty's novels] is a bit like drinking a pink cosmo laced with arsenic... [BIG LITTLE LIES] is a fun, engaging and sometimes disturbing read” –USA Today

Sometimes it’s the little lies that turn out to be the most lethal. . . .

A murder… . . . a tragic accident… . . . or just parents behaving badly?
What’s indisputable is that someone is dead.
But who did what?

Big Little Lies follows three women, each at a crossroads:

Madeline is a force to be reckoned with. She’s funny and biting, passionate, she remembers everything and forgives no one. Her ex-husband and his yogi new wife have moved into her beloved beachside community, and their daughter is in the same kindergarten class as Madeline’s youngest (how is this possible?). And to top it all off, Madeline’s teenage daughter seems to be choosing Madeline’s ex-husband over her. (How. Is. This. Possible?).

Celeste is the kind of beautiful woman who makes the world stop and stare. While she may seem a bit flustered at times, who wouldn’t be, with those rambunctious twin boys? Now that the boys are starting school, Celeste and her husband look set to become the king and queen of the school parent body. But royalty often comes at a price, and Celeste is grappling with how much more she is willing to pay.

New to town, single mom Jane is so young that another mother mistakes her for the nanny. Jane is sad beyond her years and harbors secret doubts about her son. But why? While Madeline and Celeste soon take Jane under their wing, none of them realizes how the arrival of Jane and her inscrutable little boy will affect them all.

Big Little Lies is a brilliant take on ex-husbands and second wives, mothers and daughters, schoolyard scandal, and the dangerous little lies we tell ourselves just to survive.

Like many of my favorite books, I saw the tv show or movie first, then read the book. As soon as I heard Alexander Skarsgard was part of the cast, there was no way I was going to miss this show!!! "Big Little Lies" sucked me in within the first ten minutes and I ordered the book the next day!!!! Just ONE of the many reasons I love this story is that just when you think you know what's going to happen, SURPRISE, something that probably never crossed your mind happens. Excellent writing, acting, editing & story. It keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout the entire story, never a dull moment. I was so upset the series was so short. Once I started reading the book I realized why they made the mini-series. Every time I'm about to get to the end of a chapter, I think "ok, this is the last chapter for tonight" then when I get to the end, I read the next one, and the process continues lol Great book and show!

  • Loved this Book

    By Musiclover941
I loved this book and had a difficult time putting it down. Very few books pull in. The last one I remember was Gone Girl that I discovered before most did. So for me to give 5 stars is incredibly rare. I wasn't sure about this one at first, however I wanted to watch the HBO series its based off of, but wanted to read it first. I'm so glad I did. Lots of twists to make the reading fun and keep you on your toes. Highly recommend.
  • The ending is amazing!

All the characters are straight out of real life. You will recognize them among your own circle of friends. Shockingly honest and delightful.
  • Big lie

Didn't like "The Husband's Secret". Read this to be ahead of HBO. Don't bother. Peppered with cliched characters and secrets. High strung career woman, new girl in town, rich perfect wife everyone envies, bitter divorced woman and let's not forget the nanny. Interior monologues go on & on and repetitive. Finally climax comes. Ridiculous culprit. Problem is the author continues to drone on with interior monologues after the climax. Who cares anymore? Enough. I heard you the first 20 times.

This is the first book I've read by this author. It's such an addicting story with all the characters, drama, lies and secrets! I could not put it down.
  • Intense Liane Moriarity book...

    By Murpmarie
I've eagerly read all of Liane's often funny, always interesting books. This one is somewhat darker, but equally enjoyable. Tremendous appreciation for the "didn't see THAT coming" aspect of her books about love and family life and the surprise elements behind it all. A very sensitive book.
  • Must Read

    By JandJMommy
This book is phenomenal. I love most of her books but I think this is my favorite. I love stories with a twist and this one did not disappoint. You will not be able to put this down - so make sure you have time to read the whole thing!
  • End did not disappoint

    By paulapdavis
Very readable. Not gripping, but a satisfying ending and a very pleasant read. Quite a few times I was taken aback at how I could relate to some of the smaller observations of some of the characters about their feelings and dealings with others. The author mentioned things I thought were my sole human observations! These instances made me appreciate her intelligence and depth in a book whose plot seemed very shallow for the first two thirds.
  • Loved it

Hard to put down. Couldn't wait to find out the ending throughout the whole book. The ending was a complete shock to me!
  • It's not easy being Mum!

    By KarenSimmons
This is a great "who dunnit" full of believable, relatable characters. Most parents have been subject to an annoying or gossipy clique, yet rarely get the chance to understand their stressors and skeletons in the closet.
  • Big Little Lies - there is no truth, only interpretation!

    By Jacqui, WI
This is a riveting read! I particularly loved the insights into how multiple witnesses to the same events created their own accurate. and inaccurate, contexts and interpretations of what was unfolding in any given situation. I have become quite addicted to the writing of Liane Moriaty since first learning of her in late December 2015.
  • LOVE

Loved this book so much! I love that Moriarty always has a suspense factor and this one was the biggest of them all. Read this one - you will not be disappointed.
  • Best Decision Ever

  • Kept me guessing!

    By Enewt2
I really liked this book. The characters all felt like you knew them and had friends like them. Then there was a deeper layer to each that the story made you ponder. You built the other layer as the story went on and then you were genuinely shocked at how right or wrong you were in the end. Another nail biter by Ms. Moriarty that I couldn't help but rush to see what happens in the end.
  • GREAT read

I was surprisingly captivated by this book. I had heard great things about it, so I bought it. I was a few pages in when I almost stopped reading it, thinking it would be a bore. Boy was I wrong!!! It is comical one minute and suspenseful the next. This is a perfect beach read!
  • Great book!

You've got to read this one!
  • Mature and disturbing tale is so good

    By Holabacho
This book is so complex, but I loved it!!!!! Such a good story that shows you how nobody is what they appear to be. Fans of girl on the train, gone girl, and sharp objects are sure to enjoy this one. **cations for teens/kids: Some sexual material, strong language, violence, and disturbing scenes

This book was an amazing book and the amount of plot twists and excitement and sadness from this book was amazing. This book should be definitely be a movie and maybe there could be a sequel... it's all up to the author but I hope one of these will happen.

I really was hooked on this book, couldn't put it down. I liked this better than Husband's Secret. I also liked that it was fairly long, did not want it to end. Looking forward to reading other books by this author.
  • A perfect onion

A great story, unfolding like an onion in perfect layers, drawing the reader in, with, in my case, total surprise at the - well, you just have to read it.
