Description

A gang of thieves stage a daring heist from a secure vault deep below Princeton University’s Firestone Library. Their loot is priceless, but Princeton has insured it for twenty-five million dollars.
Bruce Cable owns a popular bookstore in the sleepy resort town of Santa Rosa on Camino Island in Florida. He makes his real money, though, as a prominent dealer in rare books. Very few people know that he occasionally dabbles in the black market of stolen books and manuscripts.
Mercer Mann is a young novelist with a severe case of writer’s block who has recently been laid off from her teaching position. She is approached by an elegant, mysterious woman working for an even more mysterious company. A generous offer of money convinces Mercer to go undercover and infiltrate Bruce Cable’s circle of literary friends, ideally getting close enough to him to learn his secrets.
But eventually Mercer learns far too much, and there’s trouble in paradise as only John Grisham can deliver it.

This book kept my attention all the way. Didn't see the twist coming and the epilogue wasn't what I expected. Enjoy.

Not his best effort, it gets bogged down and predictable. Money maker for the Author but a waste of money for his fans.

Great read, I've read a lot of Grisham, and I'm amazed as how diverse he has become.

I think Mr. Grisham called this one in. Poorly written. Ghost writer? I didn't finish the book.
  • Not a big fan of a choppy book...

This book has its moments but by the time you get into one section, a new chunk pops up. You can piece some together better than others. The end was especially rough. It seemed more like an early effort by an inexperienced novelist. I rather like the author whose first book didn't see well and maybe boxes were returned to the publisher. A Time To Kill is a 5.

Not a court room setting. Not a true Grisham novel. It was a boring read. No great Grisham drama. Wished I would have borrowed it instead of purchasing it.

I've read all the Grisham books. As a retired criminal defense attorney, I love a good adventure and a good read. This isn't one of them. No suspense. The ending was telegraphed early in the book. Boring. Sorry I wasted the time.

I HAVE READ JUST ABOUT ALL JOHN GRISHAM’S BOOKS BUT THIS ONE I FOUND TO BE DISSAPOINTING. THE STORY WAS A LITTLE DRAWN OUT WITH A BORING ENDING. JUST A RUN OF THE MILL BORING READ. I EXPECTED MORE FROM FROM HIM. HIS EARLIER BOOKS WERE MUCH BETTER. I COULD NOT PUT THEM DOWN. NOT SO MUCH HERE.

Wasted time reading. Did he really write this book? Should have re-read his earlier books.
  • I gave a John Grisham book one lousy Star😢

There is a line in the book where the character describes his book rating scale. He explains that he gives the author 100 pages to impress him. If in that 100 pages he isn't interested, then he is finished w the book. I could have tossed the book at any point in the first chapters. It's ridiculously stupid, but I kept going to see if I could find something, anything of the beloved old Grisham. Nothing, the book got more convoluted as I went on. Truth be told I only read maybe half as I skipped more pages than I read. I feel very sad that this may be my last John Grisham book. The man that wrote A Time to Kill doesn't write anymore, he's gone 😢

fun read, good thriller and minimal murder. great insight into the writing world and even learned a few things about rare books. fans of grisham's the runaway jury will enjoy the inside man element of this one. if you have enjoyed any of his stories this is a sure pick for a summer read.

John, buildings on or near beaches don't have basements. You lost me well before that little faux pas. Your characters are wooden. I get it that they weren't supposed to be likable from the start and were supposed to grow on you. I just never really cared about them enough to like or dislike them. I read this because you wrote it. I will probably read any book with your name on it. Because when it is good it is awesome. This one not so much.
  • A book for writers

This seems to be Grisham's honor write for writing and writers. The plot was very easy to figure out, went in a very linear trajectory. Not my favorite of his, an ode to writing with a dull plot. Nothing more....

This book is fast paced from the beginning all the way to the end. I did not want to put this book down, great job. Ending could of been a lot better. But hey with every good comes it bad. Peace.

So sad to keep reading John Grisham wanting his writing to return to the quality of those fabulous early novels. After reading this one I doubt I will buy anything of his again.

What is your publisher due a book and you just did it for the money? I wouldn't recommend this book to a friend.
